Introduction:

The church at Colossae was under heavy attack from six directions- all of them heretical: philosophy, ancient human principles, Judaism, worship of angels, mystery religions, and ascetic practices. Christianity has come under incredible attack from philosophy since the Eighteen century. Today, the works of liberal theologians are held in high esteem in most of the evangelical theological seminaries across America and the globe. The commitment of these revered theologians was not to the Bible, but to philosophy and especially German philosophy.

A True Story:  

Once there was a man who held a teaching position in a university. He was married and had 5 children. A younger lady came along and he hired her as his secretary. They spent a long time together, affirming their love for each other, in spite of his marriage status. After awhile, he asked his wife to divorce him. When she refused, then he invited his mistress/secretary to become part of his family against his wife’s will. So the professor was involved in domestic partnership, being in the same time a practicing bigamist- not an official one.

This relationship lasted for 35 years. Furthermore, the adulterous professor asked his wife that in case of the death of his mistress/secretary, she would be buried in their family tomb. Today, at Basel Hornli Cemetery in Switzerland, the name of the adulterer, his wife, and the mistress are engraved on the same tombstone; all of them being buried in the same place.
